Having Fun in December Near Your Seattle Apartment
Seattle is a metropolitan area where there’s always something fun to do, but it’s also a place that offers a wide array of holiday and limited-time events. The winter holiday is full of Christmas parties, wintertime activities, and special cold weather events like holiday-themed 5K runs, ugly sweater cruises, and New Year’s balls.
Here are a few events and venues you might want to check out if you’ll be spending your winter holiday in Seattle or live in a Seattle apartment.
Try a Winter Nature Walk
The availability of outdoor activities in Seattle is a constant reminder of the amazing parks and nature areas that flow in and around Seattle and the entire Pacific Northwest. With some good walking or hiking shoes and a warm coat, you can enjoy just about any outdoor area in the region.
Here are a few parks to consider:
- Discovery Park – This park is of the most popular places to see Puget Sound that’s popular throughout the year, but which is a treat in the cooler weather for its trails and the classic vistas of the lighthouse the Olympic mountains that sit to the west, and nearby Bainbridge Island.
- Warren G. Magnuson Park – This park started out as a military base and was eventually transformed into a park with many trails. As with many Seattle parks, you’ll find beautiful views of Mount Rainier on clear days, as well as trails that are ideal if you’re a runner.
- Green Lake Park – If you’d like to avoid the windy shores of Puget Sound, you might consider a trip to Green Lake Park. The lake features many species of birds like great blue herons and ducks. The park is quiet and peaceful in the winter because there aren’t any boat rentals as there are in the warm months.
Fun Venues to Celebrate Seattle’s New Year
The City of Seattle sets off fireworks at Seattle Center every year, and there are multiple parties that take place in the vicinity and provide an excellent place to see the show. The International Fountain is where you want to head if you like electronic music and a video projection show, and a live band plays at the Armory stage.
The events are free, and they start playing just a few hours before the fireworks go off at midnight. The events are extremely popular, so it’s usually a good idea to consider going with friends in a carpool or using some sort of non-vehicular transportation.
If you have a family with young children, you might want to experience the New Year’s celebration at the Pacific Science Center. The family-friendly event features views of exotic animals, and adults can enjoy a midnight champagne toast, as well as live music that’s brought in for the evening.
